About ISOCEEN

This International Seminar is the outcome of a partnership between Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), specifically the Department of Ocean Engineering, and Tohoku University, which has existed since 1997. In 2006, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Tohoku University, Japan and Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember to foster further collaboration between the two universities. As a result, numerous activities that have performed well in terms of collaborative research, faculty and student exchange, joint educational programme, seminars, workshops, etc., have been conducted in the past, particularly the seminar and workshop, namely the Japan – Indonesia Workshop on Estuary and Climate Change (JIWECC), held in Surabaya, Indonesia, on August 8-10, 2010. However, past seminar activities were not coordinated regularly; as a result, a seminar titled The 1st International Seminar on Ocean, Coastal Engineering, Environmental and Natural Disaster Management (ISOCEEN) has been held annually since November 11, 2013, in Surabaya, Indonesia.

In the past ten years, we have increased the collaboration between other institutions in Indonesia, Japan, the Netherlands, and other countries. This event focuses on establishing and extending professional networks to foster interaction between the University, industry, and business communities across the country.

We bring together more than 250 participants (viewers) from eleven countries (Indonesia, Japan, the Netherlands, Oman, Qatar, Germany, Portugal, Spain, Ireland, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Korea) to foster collaborative research and publication. In addition, the participants’ cultural diversity will increase their cross-cultural learning opportunities and experiences. Through this seminar, we anticipate that each institution would nurture professional development and launch more integrated engagements with worldwide industrial partners.

Many activities that have performed well in term of collaborative research, faculty and student exchange, joint educational program, seminars, workshops etc. Especially for the seminars and workshops, it had been done several times as listed  below:
